Since its inception, BIER members have used this unique forum to collaborate on climate change adaptation and mitigation by sharing best practice and developing standards and tools. The objective of this collaboration has been to build capacity within our own organizations as well as to generate a broader impact for other sectors. The result for BIER Members has been an 11% improvement in energy intensity over the last 4 years and a significant improvement in GHG intensity. Signatory members recognize that Climate Change poses one of the greatest challenges to the continued prosperity of society and particularly to developing countries. The challenge necessitates a more comprehensive and ambitious response from society than has been seen to date. Signatory members are prepared to do our part in responding to this challenge by further reducing GHG emissions. However, the global beverage sector’s relative share of global GHG emissions is estimated to be 0.4%. This highlights the importance of collaboration within the sector to develop capacity and solutions that have a broader impact in the supply chain of our products and in the resilience of our society to the impacts of Climate Change.
